How do I change my donor information?

You can call TREATS’ donation hotline (852) 3427-2024 or email us at [email protected] and advise what needs to be changed. The change will come into effect in about 10 working days.

Is my charity donation tax deductible?

TREATS is a registered charity in Hong Kong (exempt from tax under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, file number 91/1637). Charity donations of HK$100 or above are tax deductible with our donation receipt.

When will the monthly donation receipt be issued?

After the end of each fiscal year in March, TREATS will issue a donation receipt that reflects your donation for the fiscal year (from April of the previous year to March of the current year) and send it to you by post or email at the end of April.

Does the Donor’s Name must be the same as the name on the donation receipt?

You may assign the name on the donation receipt as either the Donor’s Name or the Payee’s Name (if different). The Payee’s Name will be used if not specified. Many parents donate in the name of their child, with the payee being the parents themselves. The name on the receipt will be shown as the Payee’s Name. You may also donate in the name of your friends and relatives as a special gift. The Payee can indicate on the donation form to use Donor’s Name as the name on the receipt.

Where does TREATS gets its funding? What is its financial situation? How will my donation be used?

About 20% of TREATS’ funding comes from Hong Kong Community Chest and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charity Trust. The rest of our funding is donated by passionate individuals and corporations.

How can I monitor the work and financial situation of TREATS to ensure my donation is used properly?

You can learn about TREATS’ work through our periodic publications or on our website. We also publish an annual report every year to inform you about our work and financial situation. Our financial report is audited by KPMG.

TREATS has a sound supervisory system, where our work and finances are monitored directly by the TREATS’ executive committee. The executive committee includes university professors, professionals working with children with special needs, corporate executives, entrepreneurs and philanthropists, who:

  • regularly assess the performance of the head of the organization
  • review and approve TREATS’ financial budget
  • monitor fundraising work
  • develop policies preventing conflicts of interest
  • formulate accounting procedures to ensure best practices

The diversity in the composition of the TREATS’ executive committee brings in different perspectives and helps TREATS to respond to social needs more effectively.

Why does TREATS seek donation? Shouldn’t the government provide sufficient resources to charity organizations like TREATS?

The government tends to focus on providing remedial measures to address specific causes or events. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of services for the social integration and inclusion of children in Hong Kong, including in education. TREATS works to develop different integration activities and education programmes. Not having government funding allows us to respond swiftly to society’s needs and be flexible with our services.

As a donor, what kind of rights do I have?

The Donor Charter provides an assurance to our donors of TREATS’s work and management, which enables every donor and prospective donor to have full confidence in TREATS for creating an Inclusive Society for All Children.

  • To be informed of TREATS’s mission, resources usage, and effectiveness on donations used.
